1876-1878: the great refurbishment

However, the most substantial interior refurbishment was carried out between 1876 and 1878, under the leadership of a team made up of Count Guglielmo Vinci and engineers Pietro Dasti and Michele Bernetti. The room’s paintings and decorations, including the “vault”, and both the furnishings and finishes of the boxes were refurbished and retouched.

During this intervention, some decorative elements were also added or replaced and can still be seen today.

Despite continual refurbishments, unfortunate events and the periodical suspension of activities, Aquila Theatre managed to host a programme of topical plays throughout the 19th century. In fact, it succeeded in delighting spectators by staging piéces within months of their first performances, not only in the major Italian theatres, but international ones too. Therefore, Fermo managed to keep pace with London, Paris and St Petersburg.
