Among the most illustrious figures to have passed through the doors of this building were Giuseppe Garibaldi and Giacomo Puccini. The composer attended a performance of his first early work, Le Villi, on 17 August 1886. Two years later, the young Arturo Toscanini, who came to attend an opera by Giuseppe Verdi, expressed great admiration for the theatre.
If 19th-century interventions changed the ornamental part of the building, those carried out in the following century resolved everything regarding the layout. In fact, static problems were addressed and work was done to improve and update the installations and systems. Finally, security systems were also adapted.
