Among a glorious Globe, ancient halls, and a meeting with Rubens, the journey inside Palazzo dei Priori becomes unforgettable.

Piazza del Popolo is the heart of Fermo. Characterized by its ancient palaces and their present functions (the Town Hall, the Library, the Art Gallery), it preserves the city’s history under the watchful gaze of Sixtus V, whose statue dominates the façade of Palazzo dei Priori. The majestic sculpture, created in 1588 by the Tuscan artist Accursio Baldi, known as Sansovino, bears witness to the admiration and gratitude of the citizens toward the pope, who had served as Bishop of Fermo from 1571 to 1577.

Built at the end of the 14th century from the union of two earlier buildings, Palazzo dei Priori was restored in the first half of the 15th century and completed in 1525. Its double staircase converges beneath a small entrance portico, which leads to the city’s main museum complex.
