Roman Cisterns

Memories from underground: a veritable heritage of Augustan era hydraulic art

The Roman Cisterns consist of 30 rooms, divided into three rows, for a total of 2,200 square metres. Built in the 1st century AD, the aim of this important water system was to store drinking water to distribute to the city.

A unique feature in the Marche region, that testifies to the great construction skill and craftsmanship of the Romans and the important role of the ancient city of Firmum.
